DIY Mud Motor Kit Reviews
I’ve been really impressed with the setup. The mud motor gives the boat a ton of versatility, and I’m confident taking it just about anywhere. It handles shallow water and tough conditions way better than I expected, and it’s been a great setup for fishing and hunting spots that most people can’t reach.
Great product! Assembly was very straightforward and easy. Shipping was very quick it came in the same week I ordered it. I put it on my beavertail final attack and it ran 18 mph with the 6.5 inch prop right out of the box with no fiddling or anything. The diy mud motor kit is the best mud motor kit for the price and I highly recommend.
I ordered the medium kit to use with a predator 459 on my 1548 duracraft. This is a pretty heavy boat for the size so I had no expectations of it being a speed demon. With the boat 1 person, 2 dozen decoys, and hunting gear I am able to run 18mph. I haven’t checked the speed when running 2 people, extra decoys and gear yet but there is a noticeable speed drop. This is completely expected.
Kit was very easy to assemble. Took 1.5 hours max. I am satisfied with the performance and would recommend this for a budget friendly build.
Not my first longtail kit from different manufacturers, i have owned& built/ modified a number of these style kits. I was very pleasantly surprised! Very very nice kit!
A few of the highlights~ 100″ shaft on the medium kit right from the original purchase, thats fantastic and “correct” for proper setup. The next highlight~ the throttle and kill tether~ top quality gear, no shortcuts taken, very nice! Last notable highlight~ tropical hardwood bushings! Guys~ the Thai people know how to build this platform, if they say the tropical hardwood bushings flat *WORK* its because they do, let it be they are great!
Low points~ i really didnt run into anything i didnt like,.. the transom clamp is plenty robust,.. the props are tough, no real low points or negatives.
These kits are great i am excited to order a small kit now and install the 212 Ghost or 224cc Harbor Freight engine
First trip with my 420c DIY Mud Motor was on the White River in Arkansas, rock bottom 1′ deep, and i ran it on a 16’36” jon boat with three people. The boat/ motor combo was quite fast& powerful to hop up on plane, we went anywhere we wanted over the Christmas through NewYear’s Eve break chasing trout. I will buy more DIY kits.
There are just a few true longtail Thai style mud motor kits& this is one of them, and likely the most cost effective of the few truly good kits.
Im very happy with the DIY Thai style mud motor, you will not be disappointed.
So far quality craftsmanship, and excellent customer service. I was about as excited as Ralphie from that movie a Christmas story, when my kit arrived. Unfortunately, I did not receive a coupler shaft to marry the engine crankshaft to the inner prop shaft. Emailed diy mud motor and they took care of me. So far verry excited to see how it performs, I’m putting it on a fully built predator 212 hemi. Cam, billet everything, and made to shoot the moon. Couldn’t be more excited. I think it would be cool to see them offer an aggressive pitch race prop. Got the part. So worth it
I have the kit on a stock Predator 212 and it was incredibly easy to set up. The build quality was much higher than I expected, better than some other kits with higher pricetags. After my first outing with it I am hooked, will be putting this kit on every duck boat I build.
I purchased this kit for my John boat, I live right next the Kankakee river. During the summer months we can’t use the river because it gets so low. This mud kit lets me get back on the river during the summer, so far I’m very happy with this purchase.
Was very impressed with how quick ship time was and how simple the kit was to put together would highly recommend for anyone wanting a simple easy kit
I love this mud motor kit. I have it on my 1436 jon boat running a 212 predator and it works perfectly. I would buy it again and again it’s that great thanks to DIY Mud Motor’s kit. I’ll truly be happy on the river.
I recently purchased a mud motor kit from DIY Mud Motors and tested it out today. I’m thoroughly impressed. The build quality is solid, and the installation was straightforward. It powered through shallow water without any issues, showing great torque and reliability. I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking to upgrade their small boat for shallow rivers.
It’s a great motor I’ve had it for 2weeks now and I love it.
I did a lot of research on these products, there is no cheaper alternative to this product anywhere, quality or otherwise, even so: the components included in the kit are quality and easy to assemble and repair/replace. The staff have been very helpful and responsive to my questions, I am super excited to put this together and get my canoe on plane.
Excellent kit. I mounted this to a 212 cc Harbor Freight Ghost motor and let me tell ya. She flies. The ghost puts out 13 hp and runs up to 6000 RPM, which I believe exceeds what this is rated for, but the smaller output shaft on the motor kinda limited my options. I’ve ran this full speed for over 20 miles across the swamp and it’s been great. Will buy again even if it only lasted a few years.
The kit came quickly and undamaged. It was straightforward when it came to assembly. Instructions were detailed and easy to follow. I’ve put 10 hours on the kit so far, and it’s been great. It took some adjusting of the skeg, but after slightly bending it to the port side and adjusting the weight in the boat, it drove straight. Great kit.
